ABOUT JILLEEN

Jilleen Barrett is a NYC-based writer. She currently works full-time as the Director of Marketing and Communications for The Bronx Economic Development Corporation. As a "side hustle" she works as a freelance journalist, with bylines in Rewire News Group, America magazine, Elite Daily and more. She was the first regular writer for Taypedia, a blog written by and for Taylor Swift fans.

In 2022, Jilleen interned with Smart + Strong Publishing through The American Society of Magazine Editors' competitive internship program. Previously, in 2021, she worked at the Riverdale Press, where she won a New York Press Association award for her piece, "Ranked Choice Hits Eye Like Big Pizza Pie." She also won third place in the Catholic Media Awards for two articles she contributed to a three part series concerning quarantine measures at Manhattan College, "Quarantine Conditions Dire as Students Go 24+ Hours Without Food" and "Hangry in Horan: My Experience in Quarantine." Jilleen was also the editor in chief of her college's fashion and lifestyle magazine, LOTUS, for two consecutive years.

 

In 2025, Jilleen won the Irish Echo's Small Business Ambassador award and was added to their annual 

40 Under 40 list.​
